OUR WORKSHOP
TRAVEL BACK IN TIME TO A PRE-INDUSTRIAL AGE.
A Place of Learning, Reflection, and Craft
Listen to your surroundings. You won’t need a dust mask, eye protection or ear protection. Welcome to a safe place at a human pace. Welcome to Wisdom Through Wood.
In the open-air workshop, you’ll have your own pole lathe, draw horse and hand tools. We’ll guide you through the experience you seek — in a way, and at a pace, that suits you.

SERVICES WE OFFER
We offer one to two woodworking courses each month, year-round, ranging from one to nine days. We also coach people through woodworking projects (in the workshop or at their place) and undertake commissions. We also have school groups through the workshop, facilitate team building and professional development programs and demonstrate at shows.
OUR COURSES
Our courses range from one to nine days. The longer courses are not more difficult, they simply go into more detail and you experience a broader range of tools and techniques.
DAY COURSES
Intro to green woodworking • Learn to carve a spoon
Our one day courses include an introduction course to green woodworking and twice a year we run a spoon-making course. This is for people who want to explore a special strand of traditional woodworking. The intro course introduces you to the wonder of traditional green woodworking.
SHORT COURSES
Become a green woodworker • Make simple green wood furniture
LONGER COURSES
Make a green wood chair
“The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes”

OUR APPROACH TO LEARNING
Matt Holden
Instructor • Wisdom Through Wood
We believe every human has vast potential to learn, is deeply clever, holds boundless creativity and can do wonders with their mind, heart and hands.
We also know many learners have not had teachers who listen to them and act respectfully towards them. Thus, many people do not know what great things they are capable of. Like creating a beautiful three legged stool from a log of wood in two days with no prior woodworking experience.
We'd welcome the opportunity to help you uncover and embrace your learning potential.
